ICARO features a custom avionics bay with redundant IMU and barometric sensors. The onboard computer logs flight data at 1 kHz and controls active roll stabilization via canards.
ICARO is powered by SARM-A, Space Eagle's first SRAD solid rocket motor. SARM-A produces approximately 800 N of thrust for 3 seconds, pushing ICARO past the sound barrier.
The airframe is built from glass fiber and carbon fiber composite. Trapezoidal fins ensure stability throughout the transonic regime. The nosecone is machined from fiberglass.
ICARO is designed for an apogee of approximately 3 km. A dual-event recovery system deploys a drogue at apogee and the main parachute at 300 m AGL.
